Openly fascist Blue-Black Movement reapplies to party register

Finland's Supreme Administrative Court struck the movement off the register last month after it found the party's goals were unconstitutional.

The Blue and Black Movement has submitted an application to be re-registered as a political party.

Finland's Supreme Administrative Court removed the openly fascist and racist movement from the political party register last month.

"The court found that the party's goals are not compatible with constitutional and human rights, and democratic principles," the ruling stated at the time.

In a press release, the movement said it is also in the process of collecting the required 5,000 signatures of support to back up its re-application.

The movement was founded by disaffected ethnonationalist former Finns Party members in January 2021, and registered as a party in June 2022 following two failed attempts due to its party programme.

However, despite initially accepting the party's application, the Ministry of Justice then applied to the Supreme Court last year to have the movement struck off the register as it had "intentionally misled" ministerial officials.

"The decision to register the party had been a mistake and the public interest demands that it be rescinded," the court said.

In last year's parliamentary election, the party gained the backing of 0.1 percent of voters. In June 2023, the party's leader, Tuukka Kuru, was convicted of incitement to hatred over an antisemitic tweet.
