Last year, police received reports of approximately 12,300 domestic violence crimes, indicating a 5.3 percentage point increase over 2022, according to Statistics Finland.
The number cruncher said there was an increase in reports of spousal as well as child domestic abuse.
More media visibility on intimate partner and domestic violence may have encouraged victims to report incidents, the agency's Kimmo Haapakangas said.
However, not all cases of violence are reported to the authorities.
Last year, the agency reported that domestic violence is prevalent in Finland, with one in three women having experienced intimate partner violence. At the same time, approximately one in every six men reported experiencing violence from a current or former partner.
