Baby born on Finnair flight to Paris

The birth occurred about an hour before landing, but the flight continued to Paris as scheduled.

A mother gave birth to a baby mid-air on a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Paris on Friday morning.

The birth occurred approximately an hour before landing, Aida Vellamo from Finnair’s communications department told Yle, but the flight continued to Paris as scheduled.

According to Flightradar24, flight AY1571 arrived ahead of schedule, where a medical team was waiting to assist the mother and newborn baby.

Helsingin Sanomat was the first in Finland to report the story. Passengers told HS that the birth went smoothly and that the staff handled the situation well.

According to Finnair's website, pregnant passengers are permitted to fly until the end of the 36th week for flights over 2 hours, and until the end of the 38th week for flights 2 hours or less. For those pregnant with multiples, travel is permitted until the end of the 32nd week.
