Extinction Rebellion Finland (Finnish name Elokapina) held a protest at Helsinki Airport on Wednesday morning.

The organisation posted pictures of the protest on its Instagram feed. In a statement, protesters said they had timed the protest to block access to security checks for 20 minutes before the morning flight to Brussels.

Police said the protest lasted around half an hour, and it did not cause significant delays at security or other disruption.

"Police were at the scene," Chief Inspector Jere Pääkkönen of Eastern Uusimaa police told STT. "They attended at their own initiative."

Elokapina said in their statement that they do not blame individual air travellers, but criticise "the system that enables destructive mass tourism".
