A 23-year-old man suspected of stabbing a high school student in Oulu on Monday has been remanded into custody by the Oulu District Court.
Police said that the victim, an underage boy, has a foreign background. The victim is receiving treatment at Oulu University Hospital and his condition is serious.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to causing the injuries, according to police.
The suspect, charged with attempted manslaughter, attended the courtroom session remotely with his legal advisor. He kept his face covered with a cloth throughout the hearing.
The motive for the attack is unknown, and police suggested that the crime was impulsive. Police have said they have found no evidence suggesting a racist motive or signs that the attack was premeditated.
According to police, the suspect has no significant prior criminal record. Investigations are ongoing and the police have not yet been able to interview the victim.
