September once again set many local temperature records in Finland, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).

The institute says that the average nationwide temperature last month was 12.2 degrees Celsius, tying the record set in September of last year.

The FMI's record-keeping extends to the early 20th century.

There were a total of eight days when the temperature nudged over 25 degrees, which is regarded in Finland as the threshold for "hot" weather.

Globally, August was the fifteenth month in a row that the warmest average temperatures were recorded. Worldwide data for September is likely to come later this month.
