The Christmas market in Helsinki's Senate Square concluded on Sunday, with organisers estimating that this year's event drawing some 600,000 visitors has broken previous attendance records.

Last year, the capital's holiday market saw 350,000 vistors.

When the market opened at the end of November, it was clear that the number of vendors had reached a new record, with approximately 120 artisans and food vendors taking part.

This year's standout dish was traditional rice porridge, with 50,000 servings sold, likely washed down by the 75,000 cups of glögi (mulled wine) that visitors reportedly purchased.

The Finnish capital has hosted the Christmas Market (Tuomaan Markkinat) since 1994. It was originally held in Esplanade Park but later moved to Senate Square, by Helsinki Cathedral.
