Two Nato vessels are sailing in the Gulf of Finland, according to data from the Vessel Finder service, which monitors real-time ship movements.

Earlier on Wednesday, Nato shared a photo of the vessels in the Baltic Sea on social media platform X.

The post included the hashtag "Baltic Sentry," the name of the Baltic Sea monitoring mission the alliance said on Tuesday it was launching to secure critical infrastructure in the region.

Speaking in Helsinki on Tuesday, Secretary General Mark Rutte said Nato is launching a Baltic Sea monitoring mission following a series of incidents in which subsea cables were damaged.

Most recently, the Cook Islands-flagged Eagle S oil tanker is suspected of causing deliberate damage to undersea cables in the Gulf of Finland on Christmas Day.

The Baltic Sea will also soon see several other Nato warships, submarines, surveillance aircraft and drones that are being deployed to monitor critical infrastructure.
