The Service Union United PAM has announced a strike in the trade sector, which will begin next week if no deal is reached in the mediation process this week.
The logistics strike in the retail sector is scheduled to begin next Monday, with a store strike starting on Wednesday.
Next week schools are closed in southern Finland and many families are planning to travel domestically, but they may be affected by the walkouts.
PAM organisational director Risto Kalliorinne states that there is no need for customers to panic, but that "it's probably not a good idea to leave shopping until the last minute".
He said that there may be shortages of some food items, restrictions on opening hours or store closures during the strikes.
Kalliorinne says that restaurants may also experience delivery shortages.
Industrial action also possible at ski resorts
The possible PAM strike would take place in two phases.
A walkout targeting logistics and delivery firms would begin on the morning of Monday, 17 February, and end on the following Thursday morning. The store strike would begin on Wednesday morning, 19 February, and run until Saturday morning.
The union expects some 70,000 employees to take part in the walkouts at approximately 3,000 work sites. These include all S-Group stores and all K-Citymarket, K-Supermarket and K-Market shops, as well as all Lidl, Halpa-Halli and Tokmanni locations.
PAM is also engaged in a labour dispute in the ski resort sector, just as the school winter break season begins. It has imposed a ban on overtime and shift changes for ski resort workers since early February.
Meanwhile job action by Finnair pilots could affect flights in early March, during the last week of ski holidays.
