Annual maintenance of the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear reactor was completed as of Monday morning, and according to current estimates, the unit will be able to resume electricity production at 1am on Tuesday morning.
According to the owner-operator Teollisuuden Voima, the annual maintenance passed off without any surprises affecting the schedule and the planned work progressed well for the most part.
The annual maintenance was scheduled to end on 3 May.
In addition to installation of fresh fuel, the most important maintenance operations included a containment leak test, reactor pump work, and steam generator cleaning and inspections.
The time between scheduled maintenance of the unit is being extended, and the next annual maintenance at Olkiluoto 3 will not take place until September of next year.
Olkiluoto 3 has a net electrical output of about 1,600 MW. The unit's electricity production covers about 14 percent of Finland's electricity demand.
EDIT 29.4.2025: Olkiluoto 3's net electrical output was erroneously stated as 1,600 MV. That has now been corrected to 1,600 MW.
