The Blue-and-Black Movement, an openly racist and fascist group, claims it has collected the required number of supporter cards to be re-registered as a political party.

The Supreme Administrative Court struck the movement off Finland's official register of political parties last year, saying the decision to register the party in the first place was an error.

In 2023, the Justice Ministry applied to the court to have the movement removed from the register because its party programme was deemed incompatible with constitutional and human rights law.

In a press release on Wednesday, the group said that both its support and membership are increasing — claiming to have collected more supporter cards this year than it did in 2022, when it registered as a political party.

The movement was founded by a group of disgruntled former Finns Party members, with strong ethnonationalist views. They took the blue and black colours from the Lapua Movement, a radical nationalist and fascist group that was active in Finland between 1929 and 1932.

In the parliamentary election of 2023, the party gained the backing of just 0.1 percent of voters.

The movement's press release added that it plans to march in a "White May Day" procession in Tampere on Thursday afternoon.
