All parties to negotiations in the municipal and wellbeing services sector agreed to wage increases for the period 2025-2028 late Monday night.
The duration of the contract is 34 months and cannot be terminated by either side. The total pay increase over the three-year period is 7.37 percent. This year, wages will rise by 2.5 percent, in 2026 by 2.47 percent and in 2027 by 2.4 percent.
In addition, the parties to the negotiations agreed on the continuation of a wage development programme for the municipal and welfare sector for the period 2026-2028.
The programme will bring increases of 1.8 percent for the sector over a period of about three years.
Half a million employees
According to the Local Government and County Employers KT, the agreement will ensure a long period of stability in the municipal and welfare sector.
"The almost three-year settlement will bring stability and predictability to a sector in the midst of many changes," Henrika Nybondas-Kangas, KT managing director, stated in a release.
OAJ, the professional organisation for the teaching sector, says it is satisfied with the outcome.
"We got a pay settlement that improves the purchasing power of our members and corrects the lag in teachers' salary development," said Katarina Murto, president of the OAJ.
The new agreement in the municipal sector and employees in wellbeing services counties covers about half a million employees.
