The Finnish government will raise the compensation paid to egg donors, while also increasing support for women experiencing miscarriage or fear of childbirth, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has announced.
As of January 2026, compensation for egg donors will increase from approximately 250 euros to 350 euros.
The decision was made as part of the government's mid-term budget framework.
In response to the announcement, the infertility support group Simpukka welcomed the change but said more action is still needed.
In its own press release, Simpukka thanked the government for raising the compensation, but at the same time stated that the measures are not sufficient.
Simpukka further urged the government to direct more measures specifically at treatments involving donated reproductive cells.
The birth rate in Finland is at a record low, but the number of children conceived with donated gametes has continued to grow. In 2023, 842 children were conceived using donor cell treatments, which is almost a third of all children conceived through fertility treatments.
