Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen (NCP) on Thursday said Finland condemns the actions of Russia's shadow fleet in the Baltic Sea, as well as Tuesday's violation of Finnish airspace.

Russia deployed a fighter jet on Tuesday when Estonia attempted to stop a vessel belonging to Russia's so-called shadow fleet. The Estonian Navy was unable to halt the Gabon-flagged ship and instead escorted it back to Russian territorial waters.

The Finnish Defence Forces have not commented on whether Finland was involved in Tuesday's operation.

Valtonen stated she would discuss the incident at the Council of the Baltic Sea States meeting in Estonia on Friday.

The tanker is now anchored near Gogland, the largest island under Russian control in the Gulf of Finland, according to Estonian public broadcaster ERR.

Nato increased its presence in the Baltic Sea in January after repeated damage to critical underwater infrastructure.
