The last week of May is kicking off with mixed weather conditions, according to Yle meteorologist Elina Suorsa.

"The beginning of the week will see partly cloudy skies with occasional local showers. At the same time, temperatures will continue to rise," Suorsa said.

On Sunday, the mercury in eastern parts of the country climbed above 20 degrees Celsius.

On Monday and Tuesday, gusty southern winds are expected across the country, but conditions are forecast to calm later in the week.

"Fairly typical Finnish summer weather is on the way. Somewhere it's raining every day, while elsewhere temperatures will reach 20 degrees," she explained. "In general, we'll stay above 15 degrees, so it's quite pleasant weather as June approaches."

Nights will remain cool, with temperatures around 10 degrees Celsius or dipping slightly below.

Next weekend, Finland will mark the end of the school year with celebrations and graduation ceremonies. According to Suorsa, no major changes in the weather are expected as the week progresses.

"Be prepared for occasional showers, but with a bit of luck, it could also be sunny," she said.
