Climate activist group Elokapina continues its demonstration in Helsinki on Wednesday, with a march set to start at 4 pm from Senate Square.

On Tuesday, the group blocked traffic on Mannerheimintie in front of the Forum shopping centre, as part of its three-day climate protest.

Police said they detained 81 people on Tuesday, including four minors. All are suspected of failing to comply with a police order to leave, and some are also suspected of obstructing an official.

On Monday, the first day of the protest series, police detained 160 protesters who disrupted rush hour traffic and caused public transportation delays.

The climate group — the Finnish branch of the Extinction Rebellion civil disobedience movement — is demanding that the government end excessive logging, protect biodiversity, and eliminate environmentally harmful subsidies, among other actions.
