Helsinki Airport set up a dedicated area for people using app-based taxis at the beginning of this year.
Since then drivers of app-based ride services like Bolt, Uber and Yango meet their customers at the ground level of the P2 indoor car park.
Yle has seen that the concrete parking area can get quite busy, but witnessed no fender benders or any other accidents despite the often high volume of traffic.
The number of app-based rides at Helsinki Airport has grown "quite a lot" in recent years, according to Sami Kiiskinen, development director at national airport operator Finavia.
The facility sees around 800 such rides leave the P2 garage every day.
According to Bolt's country manager in Finland, Mikael Uusivuori, the dedicated pick-up area — and the signage leading to it — are good developments.
"Before, customers from abroad were confused because there were no clear signs distinguishing app-based rides and traditional taxis." Uusivuori said.
The modified parking lot's concrete floor now features a zebra crossing for improved safety. Meanwhile, a Finavia employee in a bright yellow vest helps to conduct the vehicles' arrivals and departures, as well as providing advice to drivers and passengers.
The airport plans to slightly change the arrangement, in order to enable the app-based taxis to enter on one side of the garage and exit through another, reducing the amount of u-turns and possibly precarious situations in the lot.
