The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman is changing, with current ombudsman Kristina Stenman denied a second term.
The post went to current Equality Ombudsman Rainer Hiltunen, the government has confirmed.
The Ombudsman for Equality safeguards rights to gender equality in Finland, while the Ombudsman for Non-Discrimination safeguards minorities' rights under separate, parallel legislation.
Newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported on Wednesday that relations between Stenman and the Finns Party had deteriorated, and that had an influence on the decision.
Their relationship worsened this year when Stenman said that the Finns Party interior minister had discriminated against Muslim asylum seekers in preparing plans for quota refugees.
