Temperatures ticking upwards this week

Even though local thunderstorms are possible in southern areas, conditions will be sunny and warm — and even 'hot' for the rest of the week.

While local showers and thunderstorms are expected in southern areas, weather conditions will largely be warm and sunny across Finland.

"Warm, warmer, warmest" could be a way to describe the weather for the rest of the week, according to Yle meteorologist Elina Suorsa's forecast.

Finland got a taste of sunny warmth on Wednesday, and conditions are expected to become increasingly warmer.

Some places will soon likely see temperatures above the 25-degree Celsius mark, Finland's threshold for 'hot' weather.

This video shows the temperature forecast for Friday (perjantai), Saturday (lauantai) and Sunday (sunnuntai).

That threshold is expected to be breached by Saturday at the latest, with temperatures in some areas reaching 27 degrees on both days of the weekend.

However, the heat may be paired with local showers in southern and central areas, with thunderstorms also a possibility.

According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the thunderstorms could be particularly powerful due to high temperatures and humid air.

The summertime conditions are expected to continue next week, as well.
