Finnish President Alexander Stubb said he supports US President Donald Trump's decision to send more weapons to Ukraine.

"I welcome President [Trump's] decision to enable Ukraine with more weapons in its fight against Russia's illegal war of agression," President Stubb said on social media site X.

On Monday, Trump announced that the United States would funnel weapons to Ukraine while also threatening to impose 100 percent import tariffs on Russia's trading partners if ceasefire negotiations with Ukraine do not progress.

Trump said he was giving Russia 50 days to fulfill his demands, suggesting that possible increased sanctions on Russia's trading partners could be effective.

Stubb wrote that the 50-day ceasefire deadline, combined with the threat of sanctions, is an important development in "forcing Russia to the negotiating table".
