Finland’s flag carrier Finnair reported a comparable operating result of 10.3 million euros for the second quarter of 2025 — a significant decline from 43.6 million euros achieved in the same period last year.
Finnair cancelled more than 1,300 flights during the quarter due to industrial action by the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU). The other party in the labour dispute was Palta, the employers in the service sector, which said the cancellations affected around 100,000 customers.
The direct negative impact of the prolonged series of industrial action on Finnair's operations was approximately 29 million euros. By the end of June, the strikes by airport ground staff had cost the company over 50 million euros.
According to Finnair, the industrial action had a considerable impact on the second quarter result, although 94 percent of of flights were operated as planned despite the disruptions.
Over the weekend, IAU and Palta reached an agreement, bringing an end to a tough six-month period of negotiations. Palta said the new collective agreement will be in place for about 18 months.
