The Helsinki Court of Appeal has rejected Aleksanteri Kivimäki's request to postpone his appeal trial, news service STT reported on Wednesday, citing information it had obtained.

After a lengthy trial at Helsinki District Court, in April 2024 Kivimäki was handed a six-year and three-month prison sentence for charges related to the hacking of the psychotherapy centre Vastaamo's patient database.

Kivimäki recently demanded that his ongoing appeal case should be suspended until the case of a new suspect who resides in Estonia that is connected to the Vastaamo case has been heard by the district court.

Kivimäki was convicted of a large number of crimes, including: an aggravated data breach offence, nearly 9,600 counts of aggravated invasion of privacy related to the dissemination of information, more than 21,300 counts of attempted aggravated extortion and 20 counts of aggravated blackmail.

According to STT, no dates have been set for the second suspect's case at Helsinki District Court.
