A fire that destroyed dozens of vehicles at an office building parking garage in Tampere earlier this week started in a hybrid car that was probably being charged, according to local authorities.

There were around 90 vehicles parked in the Tammela office building's garage at the time of the incident on Wednesday morning. Around 30 vehicles were destroyed in the blaze, with about 20 others sustaining minor smoke and soot damage.

Police announced on Thursday afternoon that they do not suspect foul play in the incident.

Fires in parking garages are relatively rare in Finland. The country has seen a total of 16 fires at such facilities over the past decade. However so far this year, there have been six parking garage fires, including Wednesday's incident in Tampere and another on Thursday night in Kerava.

In Kerava the vehicle that caught fire was an electric car that was being charged.
