An officer from the Helsinki Police Department is suspected of raping a suspect. According to Yle sources, the alleged assault took place at the department headquarters in the city's Pasila district.
The suspicion is related to a human-trafficking case that the department launched in the spring of 2024.
The suspected officer interrogated a female suspect several times. She was later convicted and sentenced to prison – but is now considered a victim of sexual assault.
The suspect was detained in the middle of a working day in August by investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and subsequently dismissed from the force.
The NBI seized the man's phones and computers and searched his office and home. He was held in custody for several days but freed pending progress in the investigation.
Suspect admits official misconduct
On Friday, the Helsinki Police Department announced that a constable who worked in the human trafficking investigation team was suspected of sexual and official misconduct, and that he had been fired in September.
A prosecutor said on Friday that the man is suspected of various crimes alleged to have occurred between March 2024 and this past summer, partly in connection with his work duties and partly in his free time.
The suspect has admitted to official misconduct, but denies the allegations of sex crimes.
