Daylight is steadily waning across Finland, but skywatchers may have the chance to see a celestial spectacle light up the sky as the annual Leonid meteor shower reaches its peak.

According to the Ursa amateur astronomical group, the best time to observe the meteors is during the early hours of the morning, when they appear higher in the southern sky.

Earlier in the night, the meteors can be seen low on the northeastern horizon.

The Leonid meteor shower reaches its peak activity roughly every 33 years. Their last unusually strong display occurred between 1999 and 2002.

Meteors from the Leonid shower will be visible until the end of the month.
