The cost of getting a new Finnish passport or ID card is set to decrease at the beginning of next year, according to the Interior Ministry.

Depending on the application method, passport fees will decline by between seven and nine euros, while fees for new ID cards will decrease by between six and eight euros.

Starting on 1 January 2026, the fee for new passports that are applied for in-person will be 48 euros, while the documents will cost 42 euros when applications are made online.

In-person ID card applications are being set at 59 euros, while ones applied for online will cost 53 euros.

"If an identity card is applied for simultaneously with a passport, its price will be 51 euros when applied for in person," a ministry release explained.

It said the lower pricing for the documents was prompted by an anticipated increase in the number of applicants next year.

The ministry's press release also detailed changes to firearm permit fees, an increase in some security sector licence fees, as well as updates about other permit and licence fees.
