Stubb joins Paris meeting aimed at "concrete commitments to protect Ukraine"

This week the Finnish president warned that "that there may be parts of an eventual peace agreement that do not align with our sense of justice".

President Alexander Stubb travels to Paris on Tuesday next week for a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in support of Ukraine. The conference will be hosted by his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

In his New Year's speech, Macron said that at the meeting, "European states and allies will make concrete commitments to protect Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace on our European continent".

Stubb also focused on Ukraine in his New Year's address, declaring that "we are closer to peace than at any previous point during the war".

However, he warned that "we must be prepared to accept that there may be parts of an eventual peace agreement that do not align with our sense of justice," adding that "we will do everything in our power to ensure that the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine will be preserved".

The Coalition grouping led by Britain and France includes more than 30 nations. In the French capital, they are to discuss support for Ukraine, recent developments and negotiations on a peace proposal, and the next steps in the peace talks.
