Finland's Foreign Ministry says there are only a handful of Finnish citizens currently in Venezuela, as reports emerge of explosions in the capital Caracas.
Fewer than ten Finns have submitted a travel notification for the country, according to the ministry's communications officer Timo Sysiö.
Numerous explosions were reported in Caracas overnight into Saturday. Venezuelan authorities have said the United States carried out strikes on several targets, and a state of emergency has been declared.
"At the moment, based on the information we have, Finns there are not in danger, but we are monitoring the situation," Sysiö said.
The Foreign Ministry has sent guidance to all Finns who have registered travel plans to Venezuela. They have been advised to stay in contact with family members and to contact the ministry's emergency service if needed.
Finland has previously advised against all travel to Venezuela. The ministry has warned that if Finnish citizens travel to the country, the embassy's ability to provide assistance is limited.
