The BBC has published a podcast series on Aleksanteri Kivimäki, who was convicted in connection with the Vastaamo hack.

The six-part series delves into Kivimäki's story and the experiences of the victims of the Vastaamo data breach.

The podcast is titled Ransom Man, Kivimäki's alias when he hacked the records of more than 33,000 patients and extorted money from psychotherapy centre Vastaamo and its clients.

The podcast also shares the experiences of Meri-Tuuli Auer, one of the victims of the data breach. In a BBC interview, Auer said her patient records were hacked and threatened with public exposure. She was extorted to pay 200 euros within 24 hours, or the amount would rise to 500 euros.

Jenny Kleeman, who hosts the podcast, described the Vastaamo data breach as one of Finland's largest crimes, but also as a broader reflection of the times.

A district court sentenced Kivimäki to six years and three months in prison for the Vastaamo data breach. Kivimäki has appealed, seeking the dismissal of all charges. Prosecutors are calling for his sentence to be increased to seven years, the maximum penalty for the crimes he is accused of.

An appeals court aims to deliver its ruling on Kivimäki's case by the end of February.
