Police suspect two youths of planning violence at vocational school in Tampere

The suspects are 16 and 18 years old.

Two district courts have separately detained two youths that police suspect were planning to carry out a violent act at a vocational school in Tampere.

Authorities suspect that the two youths, aged 16 and 18, were planning to target the Santalahdentie campus of Tredu, or Tampere Vocational College.

Pirkanmaa District court detained the 16-year-old on 2 April, on suspicion of preparation of an aggravated offence against life or health. On March 28, Southwestern Finland District Court detained the 18-year-old on suspicion of the same charge.

The suspected crimes were carried out between the beginning of November 2025 and 25 March 2026.

The older suspect is enrolled at Tredu, while the younger one is not.

Neither of the youths have previous convictions on record at Pirkanmaa District Court.
