Tuesday marks Finnish officialdom's shift to digital mail

Official mail will move primarily online from this week onwards, which means that users of public e-services will be prompted to activate Suomi.fi Messages.

The Digital and Population Data Services Agency has issued a reminder that official mail will primarily be delivered digitally from Tuesday.

The change applies to adults using public authorities’ online services. When users next log in to complete electronic transactions, they will be guided to activate Suomi.fi Messages.

In future, official correspondence will no longer automatically be sent in paper form to households.

However, people can still choose to receive paper mail through the service settings. After activating Suomi.fi Messages, it is also possible to switch message delivery back to the paper format. The choice to receive paper mail will remain valid for at least one year.

Those who do not currently use public administration online services will not be affected by the change. The agency said paper mail sent by authorities will continue to be available when needed.
