Finnish hiking influencer Ali Leiniö dead at 49

Leiniö took up hiking in his 30s and later began posting videos about his outdoor excursions on YouTube.

Ali Leiniö, who built a sizeable audience on YouTube with his hiking and trekking videos, has died at the age of 49.

Yle received confirmation of his death from Leiniö's close associates.

Leiniö died following a sudden medical issue while skiing in Lapland. His body was found in wilderness terrain in early April.

Leiniö took up hiking in his 30s and later began posting videos about his outdoor excursions on YouTube, eventually garnering more than 86,000 subscribers. The self-taught videographer's clips were watched hundreds of thousands of times.

While Leiniö spoke in Finnish in his YouTube videos, the clips were automatically subtitled in English.

In 2022, Leiniö won the award for best travel influencer at the Finnish Tubecon Awards.
