Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV and telecoms provider Elisa have reached a settlement in their long-running contract dispute over channel distribution and compensation.

The agreement means that MTV channels — MTV3, MTV Sub and MTV Ava — were restored to the Elisa Viihde platform and Elisa's TV cable offerings from 12pm on Friday 3 July.

The channels should appear automatically, MTV said in a statement, so customers do not need to do anything themselves.

"We want to thank our customers for their patience during the unfortunate outage," Elisa's Chief Business Officer Sami Aalto wrote in the press release. "MTV's free live content can be watched normally again. With the new agreement, we will develop our services and viewing experience together with MTV to make them even better."

Hundreds of thousands of Elisa customers in Finland have been without MTV's free-to-air channels since the middle of May, when the contract negotiations broke down.

MTV's ownership changed hands in 2025, and new owner Schibsted began renegotiating distribution agreements with platform providers based around a new financing model.

Elisa, for their part, wanted to continue with the old model.

MTV's press release noted that the two parties would not be disclosing any further details about the deal.
