This is a great bit of kit for what I bought it for: a backup survival tool. I’m primarily a solo hiker and paddler who favours areas where I’m not going to see other people, so I can’t rely on others for gear redundancy. It won’t replace a proper knife, saw, whistle, steel, fire starter, etc., for back-country camping. But if any of those things fail or get lost, it gives you options that are good enough to get you home safely. It’s equally convenient if you’re doing a day hike in a remote location, or as something that can go in a paddling jacket and save your hide if you take an unplanned swim and get separated from your boat in a wilderness context. It has everything you would need to get a lean-to shelter and a campfire going in boreal forest. It would probably be equally handy as part of a glove compartment emergency kit for people who drive remote routes on an occasional basis.

Of the various tools the whistle is probably the only nearly useless one as it’s too small to get much volume. It could help someone who already had your GPS coordinates find you if you’re close but out of the line of sight, but it won’t carry any distance if there’s wind or moving water around.

The hammer is probably the most unique element and is quite useful. While you’re not exactly going to build a house with it, I’ve never carried a hammer of any type in my hiking or paddling kit, and it’s perfect for light jobs like driving tent pegs, cracking nuts, etc.

I’d like to see it offered in a much brighter colour. Leatherman tends to use macho black or stainless steel by default, but for outdoor equipment something that will stand out against dull backgrounds is much better. The tiny yellow highlights don’t do much for that.

Build quality is just ok for the price. Lightness was prioritized and it shows. Action isn’t butter-smooth and I wouldn’t use it as a pry tool. On the plus side, it’s held together with torx bolts, not rivets, so presumably all components are replaceable. Unlike some reviewers I had zero issues extending any tool — much smoother action than the average Swiss Army knife.

Again, it’s fine for what I bought it for, but don’t expect it to push much out of your hiking pack.

First things first - a lot of people are complaining about receiving a used/dirty tool when they've purchased a new one. The black oxide tools have a coating on them that leaves a residue on the tool. The tool has also been treated with oil so it looks used - take a cloth and wipe the tool down a few times and it'll clean it right up. This is in the manual, not sure how people have missed this. For a short while the tool will leave some black marks on your hands but it eventually goes away. The black oxide will scratch and eventually look worn - this is just how it is, if you want the pristine look go with the stainless options.

Overall it's a great tool, if they could have found a way to incorporate a file and scissors on this it would be 10/10. The variety of pieces here covers a wide range, something like a whistle is a great idea because it's one of those things you never would think to carry but it's extremely important in an emergency situation. The clip is also great, it sits quite deep in the fifth Jean pocket and there's no worries about it falling out. I would not clip this to a belt it should be in a pocket or sheath. You may want to carry a small niche tool to complement this such as the Leatherman Micra (scissors and file) but Overall I'm quite satisfied.

I couldn’t be happier with the Leatherman Signal! This multitool has everything I need for camping and fishing—pliers, a firestarter, a serrated blade, and even a whistle, just to name a few. The build quality is top-notch, as expected from Leatherman, and it feels solid in hand without being too heavy.

I also love the color—it really stands out and gives it a unique look. Whether I’m out in the woods or by the lake, this tool has me covered for just about anything. Highly recommend for any outdoor enthusiast!

It’s leather man, what else can I say

This is an impressive tool. Expensive, but the features like the diamond sharpener and the ferro rod do work well. I wonder about those components wearing out with use but they are in removable plastic units so maybe they're replaceable. Impressed with the tool so far. One interesting note is that the colors were not even very close to what was portrayed online.

This was a gift for my husband, but I almost kept it! This is an amazing tool, the topography print and colours is really cool and well done! So many neat hidden features in it. Perfect for any outdoorsman/woman, or to keep in your car for any minor emergencies.

I love this tool I have used it for a few years working in an auto body shop. The blade has been sharpened twice and the sheath has seen better days but still works fine. Its worth the money.

Ich habe das Leatherman Signal Multitool jetzt schon eine ganze Weile im Einsatz und bin insgesamt echt zufrieden.

Die Verarbeitung ist, wie man es von Leatherman kennt, richtig solide. Alles wirkt stabil, nichts wackelt und die Tools rasten sauber ein.

Was mir besonders gefällt, ist der Funktionsumfang. Neben den klassischen Sachen wie Zange, Messer und Schraubendreher sind auch ein paar praktische Extras dabei – z. B. Feuerstarter, Pfeife oder Hammerfläche. Gerade für draußen ist das echt sinnvoll und hebt es von normalen Multitools ab.

Die Größe ist ein guter Kompromiss: kompakt genug, um es mitzunehmen, aber groß genug, um die Werkzeuge sinnvoll nutzen zu können. Gewicht ist spürbar, aber noch absolut okay.

Kleine Kritik gibt’s trotzdem: Manche Tools sind etwas fummelig zu erreichen, vor allem am Anfang. Und preislich ist das natürlich kein Schnäppchen.

Unterm Strich: Für Outdoor, Camping oder einfach als robustes Multitool im Alltag echt eine gute Wahl. Nicht billig, aber die Qualität passt und man hat alles dabei, was man braucht.

I've had a Leatherman Skeletool for many years and while it's good is lacking in certain functions and it was time for an upgrade and boy the Signal delivered. The pliers are the first major upgrade with a bigger size and proper wire cutters. The knife is very thick (3mm) and very sharp. The wood saw is again very good and works well with the ferro rod. The bit mount works with all the bits I had from the Skeletool and the hammer head also has a 1/4 inch bit mount that work's with standard bits and adaptors (including socket bits). And on top of that you've got a very functional firestarter.
