• Evening Falls on the North Side

The tower of St. Anne’s Church has recently been renovated but this photo is from 2022, when it was still gritty. It looks all shiny now but I think it looked better back then. The clock faces all got a nice lick of paint though which is welcome!

  • Last of the News Stands

I was surprised to see a news stand on O’Connell Street. It was just outside Eason’s too, where they sell newspapers and magazines as well.

What caught my eye first was the news stand, but then the man extending his arm with his phone to pay for his purchase. A new form of payment for an old form of news.

Dublin is great for street photography. So many opportunities for moments.

  • A Cut Above, Two Metres Apart

Remember how impossible it was to get a hair cut during lockdown? Afterwards for some time the barber or hair dresser would have to wear a mask while grooming your hair. This was in February 2022, when we were still paranoid about COVID-19.

Mask pulled down to the chin, cigarette on the go is the small, very 2022 contradiction I couldn’t resist framing.

  • The Log That Caught the Sunset

A single weather-beaten log, marooned on the foreshore. It was nudged back and forth by the waves coming in and out but in the moment this photo was taken, the sky was reflected in wet sand and the log was beached. Safe from the incoming waters.

  • Soft Water, Hard Rock

This is a small section of O’Sullivan’s Cascade in Kerry. The lovely sound of the water falling through the rocks is soothing. The picturesque scene in front of me does the opposite as I worry about composition and, “Did I get a good photo of that?”

Four people leaning on an escalator, the rail edged with a purple "...TE BIRMINGHAM 2..." Commonwealth Games banner, an Ann Summers shopfront to the left and a young man in a blue shirt with headphones round his neck staring toward the camera.
Photo shot from above of two escalators crisscrossing through a shopping centre, packed with people going up and down, the upper handrail carrying a purple banner reading "...MINGHAM 2022 IN STYLE" and "BIRMINGHAM 2022" with a small "Prenetics" logo.
